Calm Is Not the Opposite of Ambition

Dear friend,

I just got off the stage in Vancouver, fully switched on, ambitious as hell about what we’re building, and at the same time, completely calm.

This reminds me of something I keep coming back to, but maybe it falls off the radar or simply slips our minds.

So let me make this very clear:
YES, you can be both ambitious and calm at the same time.

They’re not opposites, they complement each other.
One can actually fuel the other.

Think about it.

We’ve been sold this image of ambition represented by constant hustle, overworking and stress. I call bullshit on that. Who makes those rules anyway!?

Ambition is doing great things without giving up having a great life.
In my view, a great life requires a calm mind.

Calm is not the absence of ambition.
It’s the absence of unnecessary chaos around it.

We can work hard.
But we can also fyaka hard. 🙂
Or, maybe more accurately, fyaka regularly.

I don’t want to remove ambition or slow down altogether.
I want to regularly come back to that state where my mind is calm enough to actually enjoy what I’m building.

Now, as we get ready for our flight to SF, with all the amazing things waiting for us in the Bay Area, I find myself coming back to gratitude.

Grateful for the opportunity to do ambitious things while keeping a calm mind.

This Week’s Cue to Pause

You don’t have to choose. Be both.

Truly yours, this moment.
