The Gift You Can’t Fake

Dear friend,

I want to share a quick story from the other day.
I sat down with a friend I really like but haven’t seen in a while.

He didn’t look at his phone once. I had his undivided attention.

I’m emphasizing this on purpose because we were sitting there, enjoying each other’s company, and suddenly, as I started noticing the details, I felt immense happiness realizing that this person was listening and sharing from the heart, with no distractions.

And now that I think about it, why was I so impressed by this?
I’m thinking to myself: hey, this awesome human being is fully here with me.
Wow, this is awesome.

I’ve been thinking about it more…

Why does real attention feel so valuable today?
Actually, maybe the better question is: why is it so rare?

Is it because we all (unanimously!?) agreed to spend our attention somewhere else?

Giving and receiving real attention today is a gift that’s hard to fake.
You can try, sure, but I think people can feel when you’re really there.

This Week’s Cue to Pause

Who in my life deserves a real gift?

Truly yours, this moment.
